Rockdetector Biography
FAITH OR FEAR, formed in 1985, is a Bay Area Thrash band from Richland, New Jersey. The band had operated as a covers act until 1986 when the experience of witnessing an ANVIL BITCH show in Philadelphia inspired the move over to original material. FAITH OR FEAR first demoed in 1986 with a three song effort. The four track 'Demo Of Fear' cassette followed that same year. A third demo tape, 'Dehumanize', arrived in 1988, from which the title track duly appeared on Metal Blade's 'Metal Massacre IX' compilation album.
The solitary 1989 Combat album 'Punishment Area', released by German label Century Media Records. Although Rich Lohwasser was credited as drummer on the record sleeve, it was in fact Dan Hansen that cut the drum tracks. Evolution resulted in guitarist Bob Perna was usurped by Merrit Gant whilst Rich Lohwasser was replaced by Ed Schwegel.
FAITH OR FEAR played alongside OVERKILL, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, WRATHCHILD AMERICA, FORBIDDEN, METAL CHURCH, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, CRUMBSUCKERS, NUCLEAR ASSAULT and BIOHAZARD. The band co-headlined an extensive North American tour with SEPULTURA in November and December 1989.
FAITH OR FEAR splintered in 1991 with Gant joining veteran Thrashers OVERKILL and other members founding WAGONHEAD in 1994. Gant later re-emerged with BLOOD AUDIO.
FAITH OR FEAR, minus guitarist Bob Perna, reunited in 2002, performing a concert at Rumors in Buena, New Jersey on 23rd August 2003. The group gave a further comeback show on 21st November 2008 at JC Dobbs in Philadelphia. February 2009 the group secured a recording deal with Lost And Found Records for the album 'Instruments Of Death'.
